Achy legs?
Specifically at night?
If your toddler or child is crying due to discomfort in their legs at night, you’re not alone. This was an issue for my son, who is now 7, and still happens every now and then, although less frequently. I am still looking into what may be the cause (Standard American Diet – SAD – high in my suspicions), but I do have a few remedies to share with you.
The next time your child wakes up at night crying about bone pain in their legs, here’s what you can try:
Rubbing alcohol.
Yep, that’s it.
This remedy has been passed down to me by my mother-in-law. Those good old remedies – seriously, talk to your moms and grandmas about what they would do for their babies; there are remedies we can be reaching for other than pain meds!
Rub a small handful of rubbing alcohol on each of your kid’s legs. Wrap a towel around both legs; I am telling you, this comforts them within minutes, and they should be back to sleep in no time.
Another remedy you can try is epsom salt.
Yes! Another simple remedy and espom salt might be something you already have in your home.
Of course, if it’s the middle of the night, you probably won’t be sticking your kid in the tub, as they want the pain to go away and get back to sleep.
I would use this remedy in your children’s bath, if you already know that aching legs is something your child deals with. Just throw a cup of epsom salt in the warm bath with your child.
Of course, another remedy would be to simply massage your child’s legs and feet. This would give them temporary relief, and you can do this along with the rubbing alcohol remedy.
Beyond this, I would do some research on a healthy diet for children and people in general to figure out the cause of leg pain. Most processed foods are not good for you, as I have learned with my son growing up. I have noticed many changes in him as I changed our diets to whole, unprocessed foods. More on that on another blog post… 🙂
