We love a good relay race camp game.
It keeps things fun and interesting and gives both adults and kids something to do together.
When my family goes camping, we usually have about 40 participants of ages ranging from 5 to 48! It is such a blast and everyone has a ton of fun.
We split everyone into 4 teams of 10 and keep track of points, with prizes at the end for the winning team. This isn’t necessary, but it makes it more fun!
Here’s my top ten list of relay games you will love:
- Running Race
- Each team needs to run in a different way to get around the cone, and back.
- For example, you can run, skip, walk, twirl, dance, etc but each member MUST do something different. No repeats.
- This was a fun warm-up relay to get everyone pumped up for the games.
- Beach Ball in the Basket
- For this game, you need a beach ball and a laundry basket. We bought the beach ball from Walmart and the basket from Target.
- 2 people from one team need to face back to back and link elbows. They place the beach ball in between them and walk down together to the laundry basket, where they drop the beach ball in.
- They then grab the beach ball and run back and hand it to the next 2 players waiting.
- First team to have all the players go one round gets a point.
- Fill the Cup
- Everyone on the team gets a cup, or just the first person and 2nd person can have a cup, handing it down the line as they take their turn.
- The first person in line has a full cup of water. They need to dump it over their head to the person’s cup behind them.
- Whichever team has the most water at the end of the line gets a point.
- **We have also used plastic salad bowls from dollar tree – that way you have more water to work with.
- 3 Legged Race
- You will need a strap to tie around 2 team member’s legs. You can either use some sturdy ribbon, rope or purchase these race bands from Amazon.
- Tie the strap around the inner ankles of both players. They need to walk or hop to down around the cone (bowl, basket, etc) and back, where they hand it off to the next 2 players on their team.
- First team with all members to go gets a point.
- Frisbee Toss
- For this game, we will use the same laundry baskets from the previous game and a frisbee for each team.
- Each team player takes 3 turns tossing the frisbee into the basket that is set about 5-6 feet away.
- Once the team scores 5 tosses with the frisbee landing in the basket, they get the winning point.
- We purchased the frisbees from Dollar Tree but you can also get them here on Amazon.
- Hula Hoop Circle
- You will need to get each team 1 Hula Hoop. We purchased them here.
- The team stands in a circle, holding hands, with the Hula Hoop in between 2 team players hands.
- Each member has to get the hola hoop fully around their entire body to the next team player without letting go of hands.
- The team to make it around the full circle first, gets the winning point.
- Tic Tac Toe Supersized
- For this one, we used cardboard pieces, cut into squares, and lined up 3 x 3 to resemble a tic tac toe box. You will also need plastic cups, 2 different colors, one for each team. The teams will be playing against each other.
- On go, the team players from each team grab a plastic cup and run to the cardboard squares laying about 12 feet away. They set their cup marking “X” and “O” on the cardboard squares.
- We played best of 3 for the winning point.
- We had 4 teams, so we had 2 teams playing against each other and the other 2 playing against each other.
- Stack & Unstack Cups
- We used the same plastic cups from the previous game, 6 per team.
- The 1st player in each team needs to run to the end point where the cups are, stack them and unstack them and run back.
- Team with all the players who all go get the winning point.
- Rainbow Scavenger Hunt
- The teams need to find something in every color of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple – it was interesting to see what everyone would find, especially since we were in the mountains, where everything is mostly brown and green. 😀
- Water Balloon Toss
- For this game, you will need water balloons.
- 2 teams play against one another. You will have 1 player against 1 from another team.
- They toss the water balloon to each other, taking a step back after the 2nd person’s toss.
- The first person to drop and pop the water balloon loses.
- To make this game faster, we had multiple members going against each other at one time.
- The winning team for this game is the team with the most players who are still in the game and have not yet popped a water balloon.
***BONUS – Water Balloon FIGHT
- This was so dang fun for everyone. Separate 2 teams with buckets of water balloons on each side and start shooting those water balloons at each other!
- We did not keep score of this, but it was a super fun way to end the games, especially since it was hot out.
Prizes we ended up giving out were random toys and fidgets for the kids and $5 Starbucks gift cards for the adults. Here are some things you can buy as prizes:
50 Pcs Fidget Toys Pack
You can also buy some candy or prizes from Dollar Tree or 5 Below.
I hope you enjoy these games as much as we did! Some of these games can definitely be played at a park or picnic also, it does not have to be specific to camp.
Let me know if you have any questions!
